MijnHasselt is an independent digital platform for Hasselt. Here you will find news, events, sports results, jobs, lost and found items, the notice board and what is happening today. This page explains exactly how it works.
Our software monitors public sources: announcements from the municipality of Zwartewaterland, official notices, and websites of clubs and organisations in Hasselt.
An editorial team of AI systems decides what is news, writes the article and has a separate checker test every claim against the source. Every article lists the sources used.
We only use reports from other news media as a hint that something is going on. We never copy text or photos from others. Tips from residents are first checked against an official source.
News articles are written by AI and published without human editorial approval. This page and the website footer explain how it works.
Sensitive subjects such as crime, accidents, deaths, minors, accusations and court cases are only published on the basis of an official source (police, municipality, public prosecutor, courts) and after an additional legal and ethical check. We never name or identify suspects, victims or minors.
A fixed style guide applies, and the software itself enforces a list of rules. A person can stop the system at any time.
Stories in From residents are written by residents and local clubs. We help with spelling and structure. The writer approves the final version before it goes online.
Articles are available in Dutch, English, Arabic and Polish. Each edition is written naturally in its own language using the same facts. A separate check compares the meaning, names, numbers and dates with the Dutch source. Until an edition passes this check, we clearly label and show the Dutch text. The Dutch version is authoritative if there are differences.
Spotted a mistake? Report it using the link below the article or the form below. Corrections are shown below the article, with a date. We never quietly remove anything.
Do you think something on MijnHasselt does not belong here, for example because it is unlawful or violates your privacy? Report it using the form below and tell us which page it concerns and why. Reports of factual errors are checked against the sources by our ombudsman (an AI system); reports about unlawful content or privacy are always assessed by a person. You will hear what we decide and why.

MijnHasselt is published by Evers Operations (Dutch Chamber of Commerce 97422649), the controller for personal data on this platform. Questions, or a request for access, correction or deletion: redactie@mijnhasselt.nl.
We only use your email address to confirm your submission, to tell you what happens with it and to forward replies from others. It is never public. If you email us, an AI assistant reads and answers your message; its emails are always marked as AI. Legal basis: your request to publish something or your message to us, and your consent for street alerts.
Jobs and donations: a CV sent with an application goes straight to the employer and is not stored by us; your name and email address with an application are deleted after 30 days. Payments by advertisers and donors are processed by Mollie; for donors we keep name, email address and amount for as long as you are a donor and afterwards for as long as the law requires. Our visitor statistics only count page views per day, without cookies or IP addresses.
The text and photos of submissions are processed by AI services from Anthropic (US) to check, edit and translate them. Email is sent via Resend (US), the website runs on Vercel and the database is hosted by Neon in Frankfurt. Transfers outside the EU are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Retention: unconfirmed submissions 7 days. Notice board and lost & found posts until they expire (14 to 30 days) or until you take them offline; the photos are then deleted. Your name and email address with a processed submission 90 days. Of your IP address we only store an untraceable code, to prevent abuse.
You have the right to access, correct, delete and object. If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
