How a story is made

1. The team follows public sources, such as news and public notices from the municipality and the websites of associations and organisations in Hasselt. Residents can also send in a tip, event or story. Other people's social media posts are not used as a source.
2. The research editor looks into the topic and the reporter writes the story.
3. The copy editor checks every story against its sources; sensitive topics also get a legal and ethics review. Only then is the story published, with the sources listed below every article.
4. The story is translated into English, Polish and Arabic. Every translation is checked against the Dutch original.
5. If an error is reported, the ombudsman checks the article again and adds a visible correction where needed.
